Marketing professionals, school students, business delegates almost everyone needs a screen capturing software, in order to prepare a better presentation. I decided to create a comprehensive list of freely available Screen Capturing Software that can be used as a subsitute to the commercially available software – Camatasia
1> Camstudio – With Camstudio you can record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly streaming Flash videos (SWFs).
2> Jing – With Jing you can Snap a picture of your screen. Record video of onscreen action. Share instantly over the web, IM, email.
3> Windows Media Encoder – Windows Media Encoder is a powerful tool for content producers who want to capture audio and video content using the many innovations in Windows Media, including high-quality multichannel sound, high-definition video quality, and support for mixed-mode voice and music content.
4> Virtualdub – VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
5> Wink – Wink is a Tutorial and Presentation creation software, primarily aimed at creating tutorials on how to use software (like a tutor for MS-Word/Excel etc). Using Wink you can capture screenshots, add explanations boxes, buttons, titles etc and generate a highly effective tutorial for your users.
6> XVidCap – XVidCap is a small tool to capture things going on on an X-Windows display to either individual frames or an MPEG video. On Windows machines there are commericial tools like Lotus ScreenCam or Camtasia which do a very good job esp. for the purpose I was needing such a tool for: Software documentation, esp. installation procedures.
7> FFMPEG – FFmpeg is free software and is licensed under the LGPL or GPL depending on your choice of configuration options. If you use FFmpeg or its constituent libraries, you must adhere to the terms of the license in question. If you do not, we will track down your project and list it in our Hall of Shame. 8> Screen Toatser - No download. Compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux. Capture videos of onscreen action in one click. Record screencasts, tutorials, demos, training, lectures and more. Share and stream videos online in Flash. Embed them on blogs and webpages or send them by email.
9> TipCam – Free screen recorder or Windows. Record your screen and voice in a flash video (FLV format) and share it instantly at uTIPu.com
10> HyperCam – HyperCam captures the action from your Windows screen and saves it to AVI (Audio-Video Interleaved) movie file. Sound from your system microphone is also recorded.
11> Freez Screen Video Capture – is a screen-capture & screen-recording tool to record screen activities sand sounds into standard AVI video files. You can record any part of the screen’s activities and the cursor’s movements, using a microphone to narrate your screen recordings. You can choose the output video’s compressor (such as Microsoft Video 1, MPEG-4, DivX…), quality, framerate, audio format (such as PCM, ADPCM, MP3, OGG…), and volumn. You can also start, pause, and stop screen recording with hotkeys.
12> Free Screen Recorder – Free Screen Recorder is an easy-to-use screen recording program to activities and sounds to standard AVI video file. If you move the cursor, launch a program, type some text, click buttons, select some menus – anything you see on the screen – Free Screen Recorder will record all these, and sound from your system microphone.
capture screen 13> ScreenCoder – ScreenCoder is a tool for streaming and archiving video screen captures. However, it is robust and flexible enough to suit a broad variety of needs. For instance, its first use was to stream live video from university TA sessions and maintain archives of these videos. Since then, it has grown to include several output methods (record to file, push and archive to a Windows Media streaming server stream directly from the encoding machine) and myriad niceties for managing screen captures. While you could achieve identical results using the vanilla Windows Media Encoder, it would require far more work, to the point of being impractical. We know this from experience.
14> Pyvnc2swf - Is a cross platform screen recording tool. It captures screen motion through VNC protocol and generates a Shockwave Flash (SWF) movie. It comes with three programs. It must work fine on most Linux distros and unix machines, however for Mac OS X, you would need an additional < OS X build of Mygame pacakge http://pythonmac.org/packages/ >.
15> Istanbul – Istanbul is a desktop session recorder for the Free Desktop. It records your session into an Ogg Theora video file. To start the recording, you click on its icon in the notification area. To stop you click its icon again. It works on GNOME, KDE, XFCE and others.
16> Cankiri – Cankiri is a single file screen recorder for Linux and other systems that run GStreamer 0.10 and PyGTK 2.8 licensed under the GNU GPL version 2.
