This is simple method of backing up, restoring and transfering emails from one computer to another computer from Outlook Express/ Microsoft Outlook Express. This tip is useful for people who work in offices or want to transfer emails from one computer to another. So follow these instructions to backup and restore emails from Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook Express and copy them from one computer to another.

Outlook Express
  • To make backup of all emails of this software, Open it and go to Tools > Options.
  • Now, go to Maintenance and clik on Store Folder.

  • You will be given complete location of where your emails stored. Go to this location (You can copy this location adress, open my computer and past the adress in adress bar to access it).

  • You will see loads of DBX files which are your mails that you want to take backup of. You need to copy these files and save them. This is backup of your emails. (To transfer these mails to another computer, access the same location and paste them there and you will have all your emails in other computer OR save them in your computer so that you have backup and these files can be pasted back in the same locations if the files in there are lost or deleted).
Microsoft Outlook Express
  • To take the backup in this program, Browse to the following location “C:\Documents and Settings\ Sohail\ Local settings\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Outlook” (Note: Replace my name “Sohail” with yours).
  • Here you will find a file named “Outlook”, you just need to copy this file. If the file is being used by Outlook, use the kill process to make it free.

  • This “Outlook” file is your backup. You can copy this on same location on another computer to transfer your emails to that computer or keep it woth you as backup and can paste it back in same location in case you loost the emails data.
